About Grunting Growler

Hey there—I'm Jehad, the owner of Grunting Growler, and I wanted to take a minute to introduce myself and share the story of how this little shop in Glasgow came to be.

I was born and raised just outside Chicago, but with a Scottish mum and Palestinian dad, my childhood was anything but ordinary. I lived on three continents before I turned 10—spending time in Scotland and Palestine before heading back to the Chicago suburbs. That mix of cultures and experiences shaped who I am and how I see the world.

My love for hospitality started during my university days at Indiana University, where I worked at an Outback Steakhouse. The training was intense, but it taught me the real value of great service and genuine hospitality—something that’s been central to everything I’ve done since.

It was around that time I fell in love with beer. My best mate introduced me to a Belgian-style wheat beer from Upland Brewing, and I was hooked. Every Sunday, we’d fill up growlers, watch NFL, and talk life. Beer became more than a drink—it was a connection.

Years later, I moved to Scotland to finish my degree, but life had other plans. I wasn’t eligible for funding, and shortly after, I was diagnosed with testicular cancer. It was a long, tough journey through chemo and surgeries, but it gave me clarity. I knew I didn’t want to go back to university or work for someone else—I wanted to build something meaningful. That’s where the idea for Grunting Growler was born. (And yes, I met my wife in the hospital too—bonus!)

Since opening, Grunting Growler has been all about celebrating beer in a way that’s welcoming, warm, and always curious. We focus on independent breweries, bold flavors, and creating a space where good beer brings people together—whether you're a total newbie or a full-blown beer nerd.
