What is Oktoberfest beer?
Modern Oktoberfest beer is usually a Festbier: golden in colour, smooth, clean and malt-led, with enough body for the cooler autumn weather without becoming heavy. It is designed to be incredibly drinkable, which makes it a brilliant match for sausages, roast chicken, pretzels and other salty food.
Märzen is the deeper and slightly richer relation. These beers tend to have a more amber colour, with toasted bread, caramel and biscuit flavours sitting alongside a crisp lager finish. If you generally prefer fuller or maltier lagers, Märzen is a great place to start.
Which Oktoberfest beers are available?
Our current collection brings together the six classic Munich Oktoberfest breweries — Augustiner, Hacker-Pschorr, Hofbräu, Löwenbräu, Paulaner and Spaten — alongside seasonal festival beers from Ayinger, Flötzinger, Giesinger, Weihenstephaner and Zötler.
For a classic golden Festbier
Augustiner Oktoberfest Bier, Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier, Löwenbräu Oktoberfestbier, Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier and Spaten Oktoberfestbier are all great examples of the bright, clean and highly drinkable modern festival style.
For something richer and maltier
Ayinger Oktober Fest-Märzen, Flötzinger Wies’n Märzen and Hacker-Pschorr Oktoberfest Märzen bring a little more toast, biscuit and amber-malt character while keeping the finish crisp and balanced.
For a less familiar Bavarian festival beer
Giesinger Festbier, Weihenstephaner Festbier and Zötler Festwochen Bier are ideal if you want to explore beyond the most familiar Munich names. They still deliver the smooth malt character you want from the season, but each has its own brewery personality.
